At the airport waiting for a flight to Minneapolis and then on to Des Moines today. I am going to Iowa; a place I haven't visited since Nov. 1981. At 21 years old it was very important to me to see my Uncle. He had had a heart attack and his brother had passed away a year and a half earlier. I wanted to see him again; I couldn't imagine that the next time I'd see him would be when my father died in '88 and then for my mother's funeral. And now, a month after the service for my mom, I am on my way to Iowa.
As weary, bleary-eyed people wander past me, I wonder, what I want from this trip. Boarding announcements interrupt my contemplation. More later.
yesterday i was shelling peas and was struck with a memory of iowa; watching an aunt pull strings from a bowl of beans (sitting on the porch!). thinking of you too, looking forward to your travelogues. safe travels!
ReplyDeleteat the party a bit late, but i am glad that your trip went ok =)
ReplyDelete@stucs - ah, shelling peas, I am happy to have so many memories of fresh food from my aunts garden.
ReplyDelete@serenity - every party needs late comers, just means you have to stick around for the clean up.
