Sunday ahead and Saturday behind me

Saturday, I started out at the farmers market at the Ferry building. There were all manor of good things to taste and eat. But I was struck by how crowded it was. And how big. I got there about an hour after opening and it was packed. I went thru about half of it and then realized if I didn't want this to be an all day event, I needed to head out.

I had breakfast at one of the stands. They have tables set up off to the side and I shared a table with a friendly guy and his visitors from France. He took my picture! Also, at the table were a couple from Indianapolis. He is a math teacher here for a conference. I know it's a long shot, but I had to ask if he knew of John Green and since he didn't I took the opportunity to tell them a bit about the nerdfighters. He commented that maybe the English teachers would know of John and his wife seemed more impressed than he did.

Then I walked thru the street vendors as I made my way to BART. In contrast to the farmers market, there was almost no one at the street vendors.

At BART there were two couples standing with maps and I couldn't resist offering to help. They were from Norfolk, England and have been on holiday here in the US for a while, driving all over the place in a rental car. They had decided to get a hotel in South San Francisco and had brought BART in to explore the city. They seemed to be doing a type of travel I enjoy: wandering. I helped them get their bearings, gave them a few ideas about things in the area, and then we stood their chatting until about past travels until one of the women said, "hey we're holding you up!"

When I arrived in Glen Park, I strolled to my mom's noticing what a lovely neighborhood it is. The neighborhood, minus the children, seems more similar to how I remember it as a child than it has in a long time.

Homes seem well cared for, things are neat and tidy.

Ray Oil Burner is completely gone now, with one last bit of condo development.

There is a house which has always intrigued me becuase it is nearly
no wider than the garage door -- a narrow garage at that; it has been recently redone.

And what was once a vacant lot where we played, looks more like a park and I wonder how it has escaped development.

  4. Gosh, it is so strange looking at these pictures of places that are so familiar, but so far from my life now.

  5. The sense of "home, but not home" is odd, creating sort of a longing for some place that may only exist in my imagined memories.
