I made it to the hotel at about 9:15pm last night, making the journey 9 hours door-to-door. The hotel is very conveniently located about two blocks from the office and it pretty comfortable. It's a little trendy and the rooms are small, but there is space to set up my laptop and now that I have found the drawers, there's plenty of room to unpack. The bathroom might be smaller than ours at home, so I want to be sure and get some pictures and think about what works and what doesn't. (I love being able to try out other's bathroom designs!)
The view is absolutely amazing.

336K met me at the hotel and we went to Shanghai 1930 for dinner. It was pretty tasty and they have those dumplings that I frequently tell people about that are a specialty of Shanghai (or so I was told IN Shanghai). There was jazz playing and we were seated just around the corner from the musicians so we could hear the music but still talk comfortably. The street was crowded at midnight and it struck me that there are many places up and down the street to have a bite to eat or drink and listen to music until early in the morning. Oh, I guess that's called "night life".
It's a wonderfully foggy morning, the kind for which San Francisco is famous. I can see water and Alcatraz. I'm right on the embarcardero and bridge, so while the traffic is light, I can hear the guls. I've got that Van Morrison song running thru my head ... Hark, now hear the sailors cry Smell the sea and feel the sky Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic...
I am going to go to the lobby and get a cup of copy and then do a little nesting before I head over to my mom's.

So, this is my home base for the next week.
Later I'll take bart to Fremont so I can see J, E, L, & S (not sure about L, he might not be available to join us).
very nice. wish all of us were there with you enjoying the fog and food!
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures. SF night life was always something that I glimpsed, but never really participated in. Nevertheless, it tugs at my heart.
